Early Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children have an orthodontic screening check-up no later than age 7.

The majority of the bite is established when the first molars erupt around age 7. Dr. Ghai evaluates the overbite and side to side relationships of the bite, as well as discover any functional shifts or crossbites. Front teeth or Incisors begin to erupt by this age and problems can be detected such as crowding, oral habits, open bites and some jaw growth imbalances (See below).

For most, interception is needed to correct these problems at an earlier age than to wait for them to worsen. This timely evaluation and interception leads to significant benefits and corrects developing problems. For others, continued observation of the child's dental development allows for any necessary treatment to be started at an optimum time.

Early treatment is absolutely beneficial in the situations shown below.

- Crowding

- Protruded teeth

- Anterior crossbite

- Posterior crossbite

- Oral Habits

- Ectopic eruption
